Culture eats strategy for Breakfast

This quote, attributed to Peter Drucker, gets to the heart of church planting. We can create strategies. We can develop plans. We begin to aim at growing to a particular number of a particular people in a particular place instead of multiplying the church and the gospel to the ends of the earth. This happens when strategies and methods become more important than our culture. The result: Surviving and Accumulating (Levels 1, 2, & 3) instead of Releasing (Levels 4 & 5). However, our culture, what we are about at our core, will always trump our plans. The reality is that we need a strategy that reflects and refines the culture we intend to create.

This Pre-Conference, led by Acts 29 Leaders, will seek to get at the cultural questions for a church plant that should guide our strategies and plans. We hope that you will join us as we learn from the following leaders on getting the culture right and becoming a ‘Level 5’ multiplying church:

  • Steve Timmis – Gospel Community: A Church that Declares and Demonstrates the Gospel of Jesus

  • Joby Martin – Gospel Hospitality: A Church that Declares and Demonstrates the Kindness of Jesus

  • Chan Kilgore – Gospel Multiplication: A Church that Declares and Demonstrates the Goals of Jesus
